Sony Science Educaion Program for Children
The main purpose of the Sony Foundation for Education is to support educational activities in Japan that focus on "fostering children with enquiring attitudes and an appreciation for the sciences." We believe encouraging interest in the study of science through appreciation of nature will help to foster the kind of enquiring and creative attitudes that will arouse in children the motivation to take on greater challenges and strive to build a new whole world.
It is with this goal in mind that, in 2001, the Foundation began the new century, in 2001, by fundamentally reorganizing its activities in line with the new policy of fostering children with an appreciation for the sciences. The Sony Science Education Program for Children is playing a key role by encouraging primary and junior high schools in Japan to submit plans for projects designed to foster a basic appreciation of science. The Sony Science Education Program for Children, which takes over from the recently concluded Sony Fund for Education, focuses on such trail-breaking and creative new projects as those designed to teach children the fun of learning and proposals to create new models for the science education of the future. These will then be used as examples and put into practice by other schools. The main objectives of the Sony Science Education Program for Children are to help schools carry out projects of excellence and share their creative new concepts and methods with schools throughout Japan.
