Young Teacher Training Workshop Starts
The Young Teacher Training Workshop will be held in 5 locations across the country starting in Osaka on May 19th. Targeted at teachers who are in their third to fifth year of career, the workshop will offer training for 1 night and 2 days with teachers coming from all prefectures.
It also includes the list of award-winning schools in the year 2006.
Centered around making a teaching plan, field works incorporating the characteristics of the venue location and lectures featuring experiments will be conducted.
Besides Osaka, the following 4 venues have been selected this year.
- Saitama
Topic: "Preparing a class in the subjects of life and science which will foster children with appreciation for the sciences"
Date: June 2nd (Sat) - 3rd (Sun) - Kagoshima
Topic/Purpose: "Improving young teachers' quality and ability in order to enhance science lessons"
Date: June 9th (Sat) - 10th (Sun) - Toyama
Topic: "Discussion to foster children with an appreciation for the sciences"
Date: June 16 (Sat) - 17th (Sun) - Yamagata
Topic: "Preparing a science class which will foster children with appreciation for the sciences"
Date: June 23rd (Sat) - 24th (Sun)

"Scientific Minds Developed in Childhood" now published
What can we do to nurture "human foundation" in children? We have introduced case examples of kindergartens and nurseries to convey the significance of nurturing a "scientific mind" in childhood through experiences with people, nature, and matters.
It is comprised of 3 sections; raund-table talk of 3 experts on the theme "development of scientific mind and brain", a message from a Nobel Prize recipient about "scientific mind", and case studies and advice of the awardment schools of Sony Preschool Education Program for Children.
We would be happy if this book can help you in thinking about raising children and relating to them with questions like, "What kind of mental growth is important in childhood?", and "What can I do to foster 'scientific mind' in childhood?"

We are holding the Applied Preschool Research Workshop for the Full Awardement Schools of 2006.
We will have presentations by each preschool based on the themes and topics for which they were awarded, and a research workshop along each subject.
