March 1 to 31.2006

Sony Science Education Program for Children & SSTA

Starting in 2006, the Theme Development Workshops will be phased out and replaced with "Block Advancement Workshops."

The Block Advancement Workshops divide Japan into four blocks. A different chapter will host every workshop for the block.
These workshops will help increase the depth of interactions between the chapters in each block. By holding workshops that address the characteristics for each region, we hope that these Block Advancement Workshops will increase the knowledge and abilities of the attendees.
he workshops also give the chapters in each block an opportunity to cooperate with each other and to invigorate activities across the entire block.
In 2006, Block Advancement Workshops will be held in the following four prefectures: Nagano, Aomori, Yamaguchi, and Oita.
The following URL contains more details about the workshops in Nagano and Aomori prefectures.

First Annual Wellspring of Science Inspiration Reunion

On March 27, the First Annual Wellspring of Science Inspiration Reunion was held at the Sony Takanawa Office. Twenty-eight out of 31 students from the First Annual Wellspring of Science Inspiration attended the reunion, along with head teacher Hideki Shirakawa and 7 instructors.

After touring Media World, Sony's exhibition center for new products and cutting edge technologies, 9 students presented the results of their independent research based on questions or interests that arose due to participation in the Wellspring of Science Inspiration. This research presentation gave participants a chance to increase each other's knowledge through questions from Mr. Shirakawa and other students.

Afterwards, the students and instructors gave updates on their current work. Everyone shared the work they are doing in their school or home town, as well as information about their current research and hobbies. This discussion was a wonderful opportunity for the participants to receive encouragement and spend more time learning about each other after become so close over 6 days and 5 nights last year.

We hope that student will continue to expand and develop future reunions.
