Sony Science Education Program for Children & Sony Science Teachers Association

The SSTA chapters have presented their plans for summer break projects. The individual chapters choose their own research themes and invite researchers from other chapters to participate in research and training activities.

Summer Break Projects

July (Aomori Prefecture): Field Research on Teaching Materials Conducted at Ogawara Lake
August (Fukushima): Seven-Course Field Research Designed to Enhance the "Sense of Wonder" in Teaching Staff
(Ishikawa): Research on Evaluating of Achievement on the Basis of Classroom Performance Designed to "Foster Children With an Appreciation for the Sciences"
(Kumamoto): Development of Curriculum for"Learning About Life" and "the Skills to Make Things by Hand."
(Hyogo): Research Designed to Enable Teaching Personnel and Children to Share the Fun of Learning

Sony Preschool Education Program for Children

  1. Children with a Strong Appreciation for the Sciences" was held June 28 (Sat) at the Nishi Toyama Kindergarten, a school operated by the Shinjuku Ward government. Participating in the workshop were 40 representatives from 16 project-submitting schools and three university professors. The program included presentations of project reports by three schools, several group discussions and a plenary discussion session, which together helped the participants to further their understanding of themes that prevail in Japanese education today.
  2. Compiling the "Selected Project Reports for 2004"
    Compilation of "Chronicle of Project Achievements"
    The Chronicle of Project Achievements (40 pages), which comprises a record of the very best of the projects designed to foster children with an appreciation for the sciences, was completed at the end of June. The Sony Preschool Education Program for Children is planning to distribute copies to nursery schools and kindergartens in addition to posting the full document on the Foundation website.

    • September 17 (Fri), 2004: Onocho Nursery School (Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture)
    • October 16 (Sat), 2004: Aizuwakamatsu Kindergarten (Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture)
    • October 21, (Thur), 2004, Futaba Kindergarten and Tsubomi Nursery School (Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo)
