Sony Science Education Program for Children & Sony Science Teachers Association
A young teacher-training workshop dedicated to "fostering children with a strong appreciation for the sciences" through enhancing the educational skills of young teaching personnel has been established. Held recently at three locations, including Kita Kyushu City (Fukuoka Prefecture), Okazaki City (Aichi Prefecture), and Fukushima City (Fukushima Prefecture), the workshops serve as a research forum on science education for teaching personnel who have been teaching for between two and five years.
The workshops focus on having participants draw up working plans for teaching science classes. This is accompanied by practical application sessions that encourage experimentation.
The recent workshops were two-day sessions. Instruction was provided by graduates of the SSTA's leadership-fostering workshops, as well as veteran members of SSTA.
This new avenue of research into the field of science teaching was launched in 2004. The young teacher-training workshop has already earned recognition for the quality of its instruction program and is expected to make a significant contribution to the field of science education in Japan.
It is hoped that the participants will take full advantage of these workshops and help to expand Foundation's activities designed to "foster children with a strong appreciation for the sciences."
