Sony Science Education Program for Children

The Sony Foundation For Education held the fourth joint local chapter recruitment meetings for the 2004 Program in Hiroshima on February.7. Participants in the meeting also went on a tour of the Hiroshima University Advanced Materials Science Department.

Presentation Ceremonies for 2003 Awardment Schools
Joint awardment ceremonies were held in Fukuoaka and Aichi Prefectures for the many schools selected for awardment in those areas.

A total eighteen schools and kindergartens (nursery schools) attended the ceremonies at Sony Semiconductor Kyushu in Fukuoka on February 9. Seventeen schools and seven kindergartens (nursery schools) were presented their awardments at Sony EMCS Koda Technology Center located in the Mikawa region of Aichi Prefecture on Feb. 16.

Sony Science Teachers Association

  • The SSTA held a "training and planning committee meeting" on Feb. 14 (Saturday) to work out the details for the new "Young Teacher Training Program" being launched in 2004.
    Recruitment of trainees has already begun for 2004.
  • The joint orientation meeting for prefecture workshop leaders participating in recruitment activities for the 2004 Sony Science Education Program for Children has concluded and the workshop leaders will be returning to their local chapters to hold local orientation meetings.

Sony Preschool Education Program for Children

The details of recruitment procedures in 2004 for the Sony Preschool Education Program for Children were completed in early February and recruitment information has been distributed to both private and public nursery schools and kindergartens and their associations throughout Japan. Taking a broad approach to recruitment, the Program has sent letters requesting assistance in recruiting potential nursery schools and kindergartens to institutions that have applied in previous years, the 47 chapters of the Sony Science Teachers Association, the institutions that participated in last year's presentation meetings and exchange meetings and the various university teaching staff that have assisted the Program in the past.
(The deadline for submitting applications is Oct. 18.)

Providing Information on the Sony Science Education Program for Children

The Sony Foundation for Education website has just completed a section that provides detailed information on the Sony Science Education Program for Children. Visitors will now be able to review details of the educational project recruitment phase, the project implementation and progress report phase and the final evaluation of overall results for the year for projects selected for awardment in the past. Visitors can do this by reading the progress reports and on-site evaluations by educational experts on the educational project plans listed in the project application thesis submitted by each selected school.
